Vadodara: Two persons were arrested by Laxmipura police late on Friday for extorting money from a businessman dealing in furniture and for intimidating him.
Complainant Bhomaram Suthar, who lives in Samta, had borrowed Rs 3 lakh from accused Saajan Bharwad through his friend and co-accused Narendra Singh in March this year as he was in dire need of money. As per their deal, Suthar was supposed to pay Rs 24,000 interest every month to Bharwad. After paying three instalments of Rs 24,000, both Bharwad and Singh started demanding monthly interest of Rs 50,000.
Police said when Suthar could not pay the money, the accused took away his car and asked him to arrange money. Suthar was even threatened that if he will not pay the money, then the accused will sell his car. The complainant told the police that on June 28, he paid Rs 50,000 to Bharwad, yet his car was not returned.
On August 2, when Suthar and his wife were at their home, Bharwad’s man, identified as Jaga Bharwad, reached there and started to abuse him. He then forcibly took Suthar to Bharwad’s office on Gotri Road. Cops said Suthar was assaulted by Bharwad and was threatened to return the money.
On Friday, fearing threat to his life, Suthar approached the police. On the basis of Suthar’s complaint, cops nabbed Bharwad and Singh late on Friday.
