Three persons, involved in more than 500 cases of car theft, were arrested on Thursday, the police said on Saturday.
They have recovered 10 cars and 64 car keys from the accused.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Nupur Prasad said the accused have been identified as Mohsin (39), Aslam (38), and Shahzad (28), all from Uttar Pradesh.
Tip-off
The miscreants were arrested following a tip-off, the officer said.
“Information was received that criminals involved in cases of motor vehicle theft will come to Timarpur. A car with three occupants was stopped. They were riding a stolen car. Also, car opening tools along with 52 keys were found inside the vehicle,” Ms. Prasad said. Mohsin allegedly told the police that he had initially come to Delhi with an associate for stealing stereos but he met another person who encouraged him in car theft for more money.
Explaining their modus operandi, Ms. Prasad said the accused used to break the window and open the gate. “Then they used Bluetooth scanner and other devices to change car locks. They also used drill machine to unlock the steering. The accused knew how to make the alarms non-functional,” the officer said. Following this, they gave the cars to their handlers who then took them to Meerut, the police said. The accused have allegedly revealed names of others involved in the crime, they added.
