DNA test of S'garh rape accused held in jail

A  youth  who is  now in Sundargarh jail  for over last more than  three  months  on  charges of  raping her lover,  a  minor girl,  faced  DNA  test  in  jail on  Friday along with  the  minor girl and  her  new born  daughter  to  know the  fatherhood  of  the girl  child.

According  to  sources, Rajesh  Kuanr(19) of Khajurdih   village under  Koira  police  station had love affair  with  a 17  year  old minor  girl, resident of a neighbouring  village, about two  years ago.  Promising  her to  marry, Rajesh  used  to  keep physical relationship  with  the  minor  girl. In December  2017, when  the minor  girl had  told  Rajesh   that  she  had  become pregnant and told  him to  marry  her,  Rajesh  had  started  avoiding  her.

Finding  no other  alternative,  the  minor girl had  lodged  FIR in Koira  police  station on  April  11  against  Rajesh  mentioning her plight. The Koira  police  after  registering  a  rape  case  under POCSO Act had  arrested  Rajesh  on  April 12.  Rajesh  was  forwarded  to  court  and  was  later  sent  to  the Sundargarh  jail.

On May 25, the victim girl had delivered a female baby.  Koira  police had submitted  a petition before  Sundargarh  Additional Sessions Judge cum  Special  Judge  to  give  permission for  conducting  DNA test  of  accused and the court had granted permission.
