The National Green Tribunal (NGT) directed the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) to monitor all polluting industrial units that are operating without consent in the residential areas of Shastri Nagar.
Noting that “prima facie” evidence indicated violation of relevant laws, a Bench headed by NGT Chairperson Adarsh Kumar Goel said: “The DPCC may look into the questions whether the illegal activities pointed out by the applicant require any consent to operate and whether such consent has been obtained.”
The green panel also noted that various units like welding shops, slaughter houses and bakeries were operational in the residential areas without requisite permissions.
Meanwhile, the CPCB has been asked to file a compliance report to the tribunal within three months.
