Two persons have been arrested for theft and goods worth ₹45 lakh have been recovered from the accused, the police said on Friday.
Gait analysis
The arrests were made with the help of gait analysis of the CCTV camera footage of the theft, which was reported at a factory in outer district’s Mianwali Nagar, they said.
“We opted for gait analysis, which is a study of human motion, of the suspects seen in the footage,” said DCP (Outer) Seju P. Kuruvilla.
The accused have been identified as Aas Mohammad and Sarvesh, both residents of Delhi. Two other members of their gang are absconding and will be arrested soon, the officer said.
The police said a special team was formed under the supervision of ACP (Pashcim Vihar) Akanksha Yadav to crack the theft of machinery worth of ₹75 lakh from a leather shoe factory on July 6. A case of theft was filed at Mianwali Nagar police station.
The CCTV footage of the incident showed four persons committing the theft. One of them was left-handed, while the others were right-handed.
Based on the report, local informers were asked for information on left-handed thieves. The police finally received a tip-off regarding the suspects and they were nabbed from their respective residences in the city. The accused confessed to the theft.
“We have recovered 19 aluminium and brass moulds, worth ₹45 lakh, from them,” Mr. Kuruvilla said.
