Rossman register easy win over Varca

Rossman Cruz SC, Nagoa-Verna entered the quarterfinals of Late Joao Francisco/Luiza Pacheco Cup football tournament defeating Varca SC 3-0 played at panchayat grounds, Betalbatim on Saturday. Both the teams dished out a good brand of football in the first session during which time no goals were produced even though the teams had a few chances to find the mark.

The second session saw Rossman Cruz entering the field of play with renewed ideas and began to attack the game. Rossman broke their rival’s defensive line with long through passes, which allowed the team to score goals with ease.

First in was Clive Coelho who raced down the right flank and then after dodging two rival defenders, deftly placed the ball to the far corner of Varca nets to beat keeper Mohammed Shaikh. Varca defence which gave a good account in the first half, began to succumb under pressure in the second session with only Tennyson Rosa putting up some brave fight to keep the rival strikers at bay.

But Tennyson could not defend for too long and even as Klinson Pereira, their attacking medio fell back to support the defenders, Rossman Cruz managed to hoodwink them with some excellent passes.

Rossman buttressed their lead in the 50th minute as striker Savio Fernandes bulged the nets to beat the Varca keeper once again with a stiff grounder.

They rounded off the tally to carve out a fluent 3-0 win when Beniston Barreto shot in with a great pass from Noel D’Silva.
