PATIALA: An alleged burglar, in his early twenties, was admitted to a government
hospital here after being
thrashed by some residents on Friday. Police said the man was first nabbed and then tied to a tree before being thrashed.
According to the cops, a group of people in Babu Singh Colony of
Patiala nabbed the accused burglar when he was trying to escape from a house where he allegedly made an attempt to steal goods and money.
The house owners raised an alarm following which he escaped from the house, however, landed up in another. The residents said while trying to escape, the burglar tried to cross several houses but got injured when he jumped from a 15 feet wall. Vijay Kumar, a resident, said, “The accused entered the lawn of my house. We then raised an alarm, reacting to which he went in a wrong direction and had to jump from a 15 feet wall. It was then, when he got injured after jumping from the wall, some locals gathered and held him captive.”
“The locals then tied him to a tree so that he could not escape. We called police and then asked him about his identity. He seemed a drug addict. He was carrying with him little money, however had valuable ornaments,” Vijay added It was learned that the residents short a video of him being tied to a tree and circulated it on social media. “The man remained tied to the tree for more than two hours after being thrashed by the residents,” the police said. “The accused was handed over to us by residents who had held him captive. He was not in a condition to give a statement as he was thrashed badly, following which he fell unconscious. We will register a case against the accused only after receiving a formal complaint,” police said.
