The Trinamool Congress delegation—which arrived in Silchar town on Thursday to assess the situation post publication of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) — were sent back to Kolkata and Delhi on Friday even as the Hindu Bengali communities in Assam raised their voice against the TMC delegation and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Senior Police officials here said that six members of the delegation left for Kolkata early in the morning on Friday while two of them took an afternoon flight to Delhi.

The TMC delegation arrived in Silchar town on Thursday but the district administration restrained them inside the airport due to prohibitory orders in force in the town under Section 144 Cr. PC. The Delegation, which also got involved in a scuffle with the police on Thursday, were supposed to visit Guwahati on Friday.

“We helped them go back to Delhi and Kolkata. There were Section 144 Cr.PC imposed in Guwahati too. They sopke to their leaders and decided to return today,” said the senior police official. The TMC delegation included six Members of Parliament and two MLAs of West Bengal.

Meanwhile, the visit of the TMC delegation have drawn flakes from different organisations in Assam including some organizations of the Bangali Hindu Community, who stated that the visit of the TMC delegation is uncalled for and that the party’s stand is biased.

“The situation in Assam is absolutely peaceful and none of the Bengalis or Muslims are in fear over the NRC. This is a draft NRC and many of the indigenous communities also failed to get their names included in the historical document,” said Sukumar Biswas, Chief adviser of the All Assam Bengali Yuva Chatra Parishad.

“It is not justified to send a delegation at this time to further aggravate the issue. Mamata didi did not support the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016, which was seen by the Bengali Hindus as the last resort to find an address in India. However, when there is no issue in Assam over the NRC, she has sent a delegation to create bad blood between the Hindu Bengalis and indigenous communities of Assam,” said Biswas.
