Trial run in the first week of October

The authorities of Municipal Corporation of Karimnagar are taking all measures to ensure 24x7 supply of drinking water in some parts of Karimnagar town by Dasara in October, as part of the smart city programme.

Accordingly, the authorities were replacing the old iron and cement pipelines and replacing them with the HDPE pipelines to check leakages.

Pilot basis

Daily water supply has been launched in Housing Board colony on experimental basis, as part of the measures to provide 24x7 water supply.

Round-the-clock water supply would be provided to Housing Board colony, Rampur and Gautaminagar reservoir limits in the town. The officials are chalking out strategies to conduct trial run in the first week of October and launch the scheme from Dasaraonwards. Also, water supply would be made only after fixing the bulk flow water meters to check the misuse and wastage of water. The MCK authorities have also taken up special campaign of providing tap connection at the rate of only ₹1 to reduce the non-revenue water (NRW), which was around 35% in Karimnagar town.

The ₹1-tap connection is aimed at bringing all the consumers into the water tax collection fold and provide them water at door step.

Talking to The Hindu on Friday, Mayor S. Ravinder Singh said initially they would supply 24x7 water to around 5,000 households in the three reservoir limits in the town on a pilot basis.

Later, they would extend the scheme to entire town covering all the 65,000 households and also commercial establishments. He also said that they would take all measures to ensure that there was tap connection to each and every household.
