Accused of role in revaluation scam

Former Controller of Examination of Anna University, G.V. Uma, who has been named as an accused in a corruption case unearthed by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption, was suspended on Friday.

Ms. Uma, a professor in the Department of Information Science and Technology, was found to have been involved in a scam related to the revaluation of answer scripts.

Vice-Chancellor M.K. Surappa told mediapersons on Friday that soon after he took over in April, he had received complaints of large-scale malpractice and had constituted a committee. Its investigation had revealed that there was truth to the allegations, he added.

P. Vijayakumar, Dean in-charge of University College of Engineering, Tindivanam, has also been suspended. Action has been initiated against R. Sivakumar, an assistant professor in the college. Three professors, including two from other government institutions far from the city, were involved in the case, Prof. Surappa said. Some The scam also involved “far off” affiliated colleges and former students were also involved.

He said action against Ms. Uma was necessitated due to “overwhelming evidence proving her involvement at different levels.”

“There was no one else from this campus,” he asserted. “I cannot even imagine how deviant of mind people could be. It is my duty to stem the rot and I have taken steps to ensure that such things do not happen again,” he added.
