Second Brisbane schoolboy suffers rugby neck injury

A second Brisbane teenager has suffered a serious spinal injury playing schoolboy rugby.

Alexander Clark, 15, will undergo surgery on Saturday night after injuring his neck while playing for St Joseph's Nudgee College, the school says.

It comes two weeks after a St Joseph's College Gregory Terrace Year 11 student required spinal surgery and a tracheostomy after a scrum collapsed during a second XV match.

Both schools play in the same Greater Public Schools competition.

Alexander, a year 9 student, was treated by a doctor and nurse before paramedics arrived at Nudgee College just after 11am on Saturday.

Principal Peter Fullagar said the boy was taken in for surgery at Lady Cliento Children's Hospital on Saturday evening.

"I ask that you please keep Alexander and his family in your thoughts and prayers," he said in a statement.

Conor Tweedy, 16, remains in hospital with muscle paralysis and weakness after his injury on July 21 that damaged the C4 and C5 vertebrae near the base of his neck.

"Conor is a talented 16-year-old sportsman whose life has changed forever," the Gregory Terrace school said in a statement on Thursday.

A fundraising website supported by the Australian Sports Foundation has been set up for him.
