One day-workshop held for Special Public Prosecutors from across the State

A one-day workshop on Protection Of Children From Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 was held for Special Public Prosecutors from across the State here on Saturday.

Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge, Nampally, and designated Judge for Special Court for POCSO, Bharosa, Hyderabad K. Sunitha, Inspector General of Police (Law &Order) Swati Lakraand and Director of Prosecutions, Telangana Vyjayanthi inaugurated the workshop.

Ms Sunitha said that the workshop was a great initiative by the Telangana Police to improve convictions in POCSO Act Cases in the State. “For the first time, investigation, prosecution and judiciary have come together on one platform to solve the challenges being faced by prosecution,” she said.

Further, Ms Swati requested the Public Prosecutors to co-operate in getting 100 % convictions in POCSO Act cases. All the Public Prosecutors from Special Court for POCSO narrated the challenges they are facing in implementation of the law and highlighted the lacunae in the POCSO cases by investigation officers, a press release said.

The recommendations given by the Public Prosecutors to improve the convictions in the POCSO cases will be issued as a circular to all the investigation officers in the State by the Director General of Police M Mahender Reddy, Ms Swati said.
