AHMEDABAD: The Ahmedabad municipal Corporation may soon link the registration plate detection system in its BRT lanes replacing the present system where a person sits with a rope to stop vehicles from entering the BRT lanes.
During the smart city meeting held on Saturday it was decided that the AMC will start issuing challans to those entering the BRT lanes. These challans are being issued by the traffic department but only in specific areas. During a meeting here on Saturday, municipal commissioner Vijay Nehra said that when the city was getting awards for its smart city projects, such an act where a person sits with a rope to stop vehicles from entering the BRT lanes is avoidable. He directed the officials to install CCTV cameras at stations with registration plate detection system. This will enable the corporation to issue challans to each vehicle that enters BRT lane.

The commissioner asked the officials to promote the use of Janmitra card. “We have around seven lakh passengers but only 44,000 passengers use Janmitra card,” said Nehra. tnn
