Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday inaugurated the State’s first Skill Museum at the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) here. Set up in an area of 2,600 square feet, the museum showcases several ancient and modern equipments and machineries.

The Chief Minister said this facility would boost the aspirations of youths and hone their skills as the museum is designed to connect ancient skills to modern skills and link forward to future skills.

“The era of mere domain skill acquisition through ITIs is gone. Now, this is the time to inculcate ‘design thinking’ in the minds of the youths to foresee future technological needs as skilled professional,” Patnaik said.

This skill museum concept would be rolled out in other ITIs of different districts for motivating youths towards skills, he said, adding, “ITIs are the hearts of our skills ecosystem where the trainees are not only exposed to domain skills but also life skills.”

During his visit to the city on the day, the Chief Minister also dedicated to the public a digital mammography machine at the Acharya Harihar Cancer Research Centre. The machine donated by a philanthropist would help diagnose breast cancer at an early stage.

Patnaik’s visit to the city was marked by its share of political slugfest as well. Opposing his visit, the BJP youth wing staged a protest at Satichoura where its activists waved black flags. Police, however, swung into action to quell the protest.
