The recent hike in fee to grant course and provisional affiliations for self-financing colleges will be reconsidered, said Vice-Chancellor of Bharathidasan University P. Manisankar.
Replying to the resolution moved by M. R. Rahunathan, secretary, Meenakshmi Ramasamy Arts and Science College, Thathanur, at the Senate meeting of the university on Saturday, he said that the new fee structure for course, permanent and provisional affiliation for private colleges was fixed after studying various parameters and the existing structure being followed in some leading universities in the State.
The new fee structure might be on a par with some of the universities but not more than other universities. As the university had received a number of representations to review the fee structure, it would be revised taking into consideration the representations.
Mr. Manisankar said that the university would give priority to self-financing colleges to grant permanent affiliations.
Statistics revealed that several colleges have not gone for accreditation of National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), he pointed out and said that besides getting accreditation, the colleges must take steps to improve its ranking under the National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF). This would ultimately lead to permanent affiliations.
To a question from a member, the Vice Chancellor said that the university had taken steps to improve the syllabus for various courses based on recent developments and contemporary requirements.
The draft syllabi would be uploaded on the university website for comments from the public and teaching fraternity.
It would be given a month time. If needed, changes would be incorporated in the syllabi by following due process.
On reducing the days of examination schedule, Mr. Manisankar said that the university had reduced the number of days of examinations to 25 from 40. It was inclined to reduce the days further.
Similarly, it had decided to declare results within a week of examination. It had already declared results of some of the examinations within a week.
He said the university had given affiliation for four new colleges such as S.R.M. Tiruchi Arts and Science College, Queen's Arts and Science College for Women, Karambakudi, Government Arts and Science College, Karur and Bharathi Vidyalaya Arts and Science College, Thirukokarnam for 2018-19.
