A Delhi court on Friday extended by three days the remand of Ranjit Malik, alias Johny, who is in the custody of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a bank loan fraud case of over ₹5,000 crore, over allegations that he had sent ₹25 lakh in cash to the official residence of senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel here.
Duty Magistrate Bhavna Kalia extended the custody of Mr. Malik after he was produced in court on expiry of his one-day custody granted on Thursday.
On an application moved by special public prosecutor Nitesh Rana, appearing for the ED, the court said the accused was being sent for custodial interrogation for three more days.
The ED said Mr. Malik had allegedly sent the huge sum, through one Rakesh Chandra, to 23 Mother Teresa Crescent, which is the official address of Mr. Patel. The Congress leader said, “I don’t know anything about this. Let the law take its own course.”
