The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a charge sheet against the head of a Wadakkancherry-based educational trust and a member of the AICTE panel in connection with the alleged irregularities in granting accreditation to an engineering college.
The charge sheet, filed at the CBI special court in Kochi, has arraigned K.S. Hamsa of IQRA Education and Charitable Trust, which runs the Malabar College of Engineering and Technology at Pallur, and Ranjit Singh of Dwarka in New Delhi. They have been charged under IPC 120B and 420 and the Prevention of Corruption Act Sections 13(2) and 13(1)(d).
The agency is awaiting prosecution sanction against Manju Singh, former regional director of AICTE, and Benny Mathew, member of the AICTE panel which had inspected the college.
According to the case, the AICTE regional director had violated norms to appoint a two-member panel to inspect the college for awarding AICTE accreditation.
The CBI had last month filed a charge sheet against Thejus Engineering College, Pazhanji, on similar charges.
