Burhanpur : Educationist, social worker and industrialist Thakur Virendra Singh consigned to flames at Nagjhiri ghat crematorium on Saturday.
He died in Indore while undergoing treatment on Friday night following a brief illness. He was 58.
President of Seva Sadan College and director of Naval Singh sugar factory, Burhanpur, Singh was also associated with various social organisations. A pal of gloom descended when people came to know about his demise. Thousands From Burhanpur, Nepanagar, Khandwa, Khargone, Indore and other parts of Malwa-Nimar region participated in his funeral procession and paid tribute. His eldest son Aditya Pratap Singh lit the pyre.
According to information, Singh was admitted to the hospital on Thursday night after he suffered brain haemorrhage. He was immediately taken to the hospital, from where doctors referred him to Indore. At Indore, the doctors declared him brain dead and put him on ventilator.
On Friday night, doctors declared him dead. Singh’s family members took his mortal remains to his Indira Colony situated ancestral place.
His funeral procession was taken to Nagjhiri Ghat crematorium. Woman and child development minister Archana Chitnis, MP Nandkumar Singh Chouhan, mayor Anil Bhonsale, Congress MLA from Kasrawad Sachin Yadav, Congress president Ajay Singh Raghuvanshi, former MLA Amit Kaji and others paid homage.
Many politicians and dignitaries who joined the funeral procession said Singh will always be remembered for his social work and contribution in the field of education.
He was former Lions Club president and associated with many other social organisations in Nimar region.
