Volunteers clean River Noyyal

more-in

Volunteers from Kovai Kulangal Pathugapu Amaipu along with a few students of the Sri Krishna Arts and Science College on Friday cleaned the stretch of River Noyyal near Perur.

R. Manikandan of the Amaipu (a collective of volunteers aimed at cleaning water bodies in Coimbatore) says that around 50 persons were engaged in the task. The volunteers had collected more than 10 bins of plastics, dress materials and other waste.

Mr. Manikandan says that their task became easy as the Perur temple administration and Coimbatore Rural Police had let them use a public address system to urge devotees to not dump plastic and waste into the River. This helped as many devotees dumped the waste in the bins and not into the River.

He adds that the volunteers will continue their cleaning work on Sunday as more waste remained in Perur. And, once the cleaning work was over, they would handover the waste to the Perur Town Panchayat.
