I have always wanted to bring out the identity and talent in a woman. With this objective in mind I had launched an exclusive gym for ladies called Virgo, at my home in the early nineties.

Chennai:
This was at a time when such fitness centres for women were hardly known. Among other pursuits like a hobby centre, I launched the Ashok Nagar Progressive Women’s Association, the 23rd anniversary of which was celebrated recently. Through my initiatives, I try to explore ways to serve the society as a whole, with women right at the centre of all the efforts. That is why we have adopted four anganwadis in the locality to give them the best of facilities.
We provide gas cylinders, shelves, etc. to them. Among other efforts, we have been working on better awareness on menstrual health among young girls and women in and around the locality to break the taboo associated with it. These people belong to the lower income group and have been conditioned to approach the subject in hushed tones. Through an awareness event, they were encouraged to bring up the subject like any other general aspect of their lives. My other endeavors are concerning the environment. I have so far planted 400 saplings and these have successfully given a green cover to the locality. Through the association, I have tried to make the concern for nature a habit among other members as well, as we regularly carry out planting drives in the locality.
