Writes to Delhi Police Commissioner, Mayors of the three civic bodies

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State chief Manoj Tiwari has written to the Delhi Police Commissioner and the Mayors of the three civic bodies demanding a “smooth kanwad yatra” and the safety of kanwariyas.

The BJP stated that Mr. Tiwari had drawn the attention of Amulya Patnaik and the Mayors of the three civic bodies — Narender Chawala, Adesh Gupta and Bipin Bihari Singh — to issues related to the yatra based on reports of difficulties the kanwariyas face at rest stops across the Capital.

“In his letter, Mr. Tiwari has drawn the attention of the Delhi Police and the municipal corporations towards the roads which the kanwariyas use and take rest in the camps situated on. He said that from some places, reports have been received that the kanwariyas were facing difficulties due to traffic jam on the roads on which they pass,” the statement said.

Nand Nagri accident

Expressing his grief over the death of a security guard deputed in a kanwad camp due to an accident in Nand Nagri, the statement said, the Delhi BJP chief said the incident was “a great lapse” in the security of kanwad tents. “The roads being used by the kanwariyas should be completely free from encroachments, traffic should be made smooth and the camps secure,” he demanded in his letter.

Mr. Tiwari also pointed out to the Delhi Police and the municipal corporations that it needed to be ensured that the “unfortunate incident” which occurred in Nand Nagri was not repeated and the kanwad yatra concluded safely.
