Saurabh Shukla’s thriller ‘Barff’ staged at Ravindra Bhavan

Marking the first day of GIFLIF festival on Friday, a Hindi play ‘Barff’ was staged at Ravindra Bhavan auditorium. The hall was jam-packed as the theatre buffs of the city had a fascinating evening watching Hindi play ‘Barff’.

The play that deals with three different personalities and their one story, Hindi play Barff is directed by renowned theatre and Bollywood actor Saurabh Shukla. The play was brilliantly performed by the artists of AGP World Theatre troupe, Mumbai.

Set in picturesque Kashmir during winter, Barff is a thriller which spans over one night. Desperate parents of an ailing child and an unsuspecting doctor are the three lives caught in the whirlwind of conflicting questions of truth, reality and belief.

The play opens on one snowy night in Kashmir. The esoteric set of a wooden house bathed in a pronounced blue light enhances the mystery. There comes a dim torch light, where Kashmiri taxi driver (Sunil Palwal) is seen guiding a senior doctor (Saurabh Shukla) towards his house to treat his ailing son.

The night-long play unfolds the story as the doctor and the driver share their diverse lives on route.

The driver lives in a village which is often caught in cross border fire and the residents have been relocated to safer places. The doctor is a high profile oncologist who has visited Srinagar for a medical conference.

As they reach driver’s house they are welcomed by driver’s fussy wife, whose world revolves around her little kid. The plot becomes thrilling when driver’s wide turns out to be a psychotic possessive mother while her husband is a doting one. Her wish is his command.

As the plot thickens, the doctor finds himself bound-up in ropes. Barff raises many questions about truth and belief.

The performances by the three characters were sparklingly spontaneous one. The theatre buffs had a wonderful evening watching the show as Sourabh Shukla nailed every act of hit like always.
