Express trains’ stoppage at Deogoan demanded

People of Deogaon under the banner of the Gramya Unnayan Committee and the Merchants’ Association, staged a Rail Roko at the Deogaon railway station, 20 km from here, demanding stoppage of express trains at the station.

The demonstration was held under the leadership of Sashi Sahu, Subal Rana and Sushil Chand to which former Rajya Sabha member AU Singh Deo along with his son Arkesh Singh Deo extended support with their presence.

AU Singh Deo said. “I would take up the matter at a higher level and with the Chief Minister also”. Balangir MP Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo on Friday also submitted a petition to Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal in New Delhi regarding the matter.

Balangir MLA and Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra also visited the demonstration site and extended his support to the demand.

In a related development, the Sambalpur Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) has invited a delegation to hold discussions on the people's demand in Sambalpur on Saturday.

The Rail Roko also resulted in cancellation and short termination of trains on the Sambalpur and Titlagarh routes. The train services were also affected due to public agitation at the station near Balangir.
