Very heavy rainfall’ alert in Dehradun for 24 hours in State for 72 hours

Dehradun experienced heavy rain throughout the day on Friday with the State Meteorological Centre warning ‘very heavy rainfall’ in the city for the next 24 hours. The rainfall recorded in the city on Thursday was 70.3 millimetres  and it has gone up to 96 millimetres on Friday evening. The city was lashed by torrential downpour which started in the afternoon and was continuing unabated till the late evening when the report was being filed. The State Met Centre also issued an alert of very heavy downpour for Uttarakhand during the next 72 hours. 

According to the State Met Centre, ‘Heavy’ to ‘very heavy’ rainfall is likely to lash isolated places especially in Pauri, Tehri, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Nainital, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh districts for the next 74 hours. ‘Very heavy rainfall’ is likely to occur in the Dehradun city on Saturday while the maximum and the minimum temperatures are likely to settle at 29 degree Celsius and 22 degree Celsius respectively.

Speaking about the weather forecast, Director of State Met Centre Bikram Singh said, “Alert has been given for 72 hours in the State. About the city, people living especially in the low-lying areas  by Rispana and Bindal rivers should remain alert. Saturday might see very heavy rain in many parts of the city. ”

The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded  at some cities of the State on Friday were Dehradun 28.9 degree Celsius and 22.6 degree Celsius, Pantnagar 29.2 degree Celsius and 24.0 degree Celsius, Mukteshwar 18.0 degree Celsius and 14.9 degree Celsius and New Tehri 22.8 degree Celsius and 17.8 degree Celsius respectively.
