The employees of transport corporations in Karnataka have decided to strike work on August 7 and stage a protest in Bengaluru against the Motor Vehicle (Amendment) Bill, 2017.
H.S. Manjunath, general secretary, KSRTC Employees Federation, here on Friday, said the bill, already passed in Lok Sabha, was anti-people and anti-employees.
“The bill, if it is passed in parliament, will ruin of lives of lakhs of people in the transport sector. Individuals earning their livelihood with one or two vehicles will face the heat as the new law is only to help the corporate sector,” he said.
The bill proposes to allow private players to enter the public transport arena in a big way. “The big manufacturers of vehicles can enter the public transport sector and minimise the role of transport corporations, which have been serving the public for many years. The private companies will provide service keeping profit in mind,” he said.
Dharmesh, CITU district president, said with the new law the Centre would take away powers of the State government and such a move was against the interest of the federal set up. He appealed to employees of all transport corporations to join the protest.
