2,500 university teachers go on mass casual leave

Over 2,500 teachers of eight State owned universities went on mass casual leave on Friday to register their protest over the decision of dissolving University Grant Commission (UGC). As per the decision of the central government soon Council for Higher Education will be constituted. According to the members of Federation of University Teachers’ Association of Jharkhand (FUTAJ), Jharkhand affiliated to AIFUCTO, as many as 6 lakh teachers lending their services in different colleges across the country supported the one day Mass Casual Leave.

“From Jharkhand, teachers associated with 79 constituent and affiliated colleges of all the eight State-owned varsities supported the protest,” said General Secretary, FUTAJ - Jharkhand, Dr Raj Kumar. The list of demands of the members also includes payment on the basis on 7thpay commission, clearing previous arrears of the staffs, resumption of pension schemes etc.
