'Renovate leaking Jayalaksmi Vilas'

MYSURU: The Jayalakshmi Vilas Palace, home to one of the best museums in the world, is leaking, and should be renovated soon, said in-charge vice-chancellor, University of Mysore Prof TK Umesh here on Friday.
He inaugurated the PR Tippeswamy Chair organised by the Kuvempu Institute of Kannada Studies (KIKS) attached to Manasagangothri at the Folklore Museum of Palace premises. He said the decision to establish a chair honouring the founder of Folklore Museum, PR Tippeswamy, was taken at the previous syndicate meeting. "The museum is housed in a beautiful palace, but the building is leaking. It would be good if the palace is renovated soon," he added.

Writer CP Krishna Kumar, who was the chief guest, said the varsity has been installing many chairs. While most have been useless, the Tippeswamy Chair brings honour to KIKS. The museum is the lifeline of KIKS and Tippeswamy stands amid stalwarts like De Javaregowda and Ha Ma Nayak, he said.

Tippeswamy not only set up the museum but was also a great artist, particularly of landscapes. He had painted favourite places of poet laureate Kuvempu. While the writer wrote 'Malenadina Chitragalu', Tippeswamy painted Malenadu, Krishna Kumar added. Noted folklorist PK Rajashekar was appointed as faculty of PR Tippeswamy Chair. Director of KIKS NM Talawar and noted scholar DK Rajendra were present a t the event.
