Mnangagwa hails 'new beginning' after Zimbabwe election win
Zimbabwe's president Emmerson Mnangagwa said Friday that he was "humbled" to have won the country's landmark election, hailing it as a "new beginning" after the ousting of autocrat Robert Mugabe.
"Thank you Zimbabwe! I am humbled to be elected President of the Second Republic of Zimbabwe," he said in a Twitter message.
"Though we may have been divided at the polls, we are united in our dreams. This is a new beginning," the message added.

'ZEC scandal of releasing unverified fake results is regrettable,' says MDC leader
Zimbabwe's opposition leader Nelson Chamisa on Friday dismissed what he called the "unverified fake results" of the election which handed victory to President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
"The ZEC scandal of releasing unverified fake results is regrettable," Chamisa wrote on Twitter, referring to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission.
He charged that the ZEC had denied his Movement for Democratic Change party access to the results before the announcement that Mnangagwa had won by the narrowest margin of 50.8%.
"ZEC must release proper & verified results endorsed by parties," Chamisa said.

Zimbabwe elections: ANC, EFF congratulate Mnangagwa, DA awaits results of MDC court challenge
The ANC and the EFF have congratulated Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa for winning the country's elections, while the DA says it is awaiting the outcome of the opposition MDC's pending challenge.
Mnangagwa was named the winner of the country's elections in the early hours of Friday, the first poll since the ousting of former president Robert Mugabe in November last year.

Zimbabwe riot police leave opposition briefing
Zimbabwean riot police with batons and shields are leaving after breaking up a press conference by opposition leader Nelson Chamisa, who has alleged rigging of the presidential election.
Police chased away reporters without explanation but ruling party officials are now urging reporters to attend the briefing. There is no sign of Chamisa.
Opposition supporters heckled the police as they left.

Zimbabwe's opposition on Friday rejected what it said were the "fake" results of the landmark election in which President Emmerson Mnangagwa has been declared the winner.
Zimbabwe woke to the news that Mnangagwa, a former ally of Robert Mugabe, had won the historic first polls since the autocrat's ousting last year with 50.8% of the vote, according to the electoral commission.
The narrow margin is just enough to avoid a run-off against opposition leader Nelson Chamisa that would have been called if Mnangagwa had won less than 50% of the vote.
