Mumbai: The Thane police on Thursday arrested Shiv Sena corporator’s husband and his brother for allegedly extorting money from a builder in Kalyan. Both were produced in a Kalyan court and remanded to police custody. Police said that the accused identified as Satish Jadhav, husband of Sarika Jadhav, who is a corporator from the Bhagwan Nagar area in Kalyan east, and his brother Jugnu Jadhav were arrested on Thursday.Anti-Extortion Cell officials said that the two had demanded extortion money of Rs 2 lakh from the complainant, Vinod Pawase, a builder, who had constructed an illegal mobile tower on his building. The police said, “Satish made a demand for Rs 3 lakh, which was later settled for Rs 2 lakh.”
However, the duo continued to demand money by threatening him, so the victim lodged a complaint with the police. The accused were called to Kalyan on the pretext of collecting money on Thursday evening. The AEC laid a trap and nabbed them while accepting Rs 2 lakh from the complainant.The duo were booked under IPC Sections 384 (extortion), 385 (putting a person in fear of injury in order to commit extortion) and 387 (putting a person in fear of death or of grievous hurt, in order to commit extortion), the police said, adding that further investigation into the case is on.
