A 38-year-old inmate of the Kakkanad district prison died while undergoing treatment at a hospital here on Saturday.
Officials said the person, identified as Baiju of Tamil Nadu’s Kanyakumari district, died of withdrawal syndrome. He was accused of abusing two minor girls at Kolenchery along with his friend Rajan and was sent to jail two days ago. Officials said Baiju, an alcoholic, had been suffering from the syndrome since he was brought to the jail.
