A woman tourist Venkata Rajyalakshmi (35) died and five others suffered injuries when a battery-operated car, in which they were going, hit an iron pole near the bus stop atop Kailasagiri Hill, here, on Saturday evening.
The battery car is operated from the entrance of Kailasagiri Hill to Telugu Museum, a distance of about 1.5 km, on the hill. There were six tourists in addition to the driver at the time of the accident. They were returning to the Telugu Museum bus stop, according to the police.
The woman died of head injuries and the remaining persons suffered minor injuries, according to Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic) K. Prabhakar. He said there was no need to obtain permission of the Police and Transport Department officials for the operation of battery-operated cars, as per the new guidelines.
The Arilova Police registered a case and are investigating it.
