PC’s wife and son get relief from SC

NEW DELHI: In a relief to family members of former Union minister P Chidambaram, the Supreme Court on Friday restrained the Enforcement Directorate from taking any coercive action against his wife Nalini Chidambaram in the Saradha chit fund scam case and also refused to cancel his son Karti’s bail in the INX Media case.

Agreeing to hear a plea of Nalini Chidambaram challenging ED’s summons to her, a bench of Justices A K Sikri and Ashok Bhushan issued notice to ED and asked it not to take any action against her till the matter is decided by the court. She approached the SC after the Madras HC refused to grant her relief.

The bench also turned down CBI’s plea to quash Karti’s bail granted by the Delhi HC in INX Media case. It however, made it clear that the observations made by the HC would not influence any proceedings in the case.
