KOLKATA:
Radio jockey Nilanjana Bandyopadhyay, who had been duped of Rs 50,000 on Thursday, received an SMS on Friday morning that said her debit card had been swiped at an ATM in Delhi. However, the transaction was declined since she had already lodged a complaint and
hotlisted her card after Thursday’s incident.
“It is unbelievable! I had lodged a complaint with Alipore police station on Thursday after the fraudsters withdrew money from my account through five transactions of Rs 10,000 each at a Bank of India ATM in southwest Delhi. The fraudsters were taking another chance on Friday morning as they had checked my balance and found enough cash. I complained with the bank on Friday again after the SMS,” she said.
Bank officials assured her that since the card had already been blocked on Thursday, no further withdrawal can happen now. “The officials asked me not to apply for a debit card till I get my money back and advised me to operate through cheques for the time being,” the RJ said.
She said that on July 27, her friend Sreemoy Banerjee had been duped in the same way. Banerjee said that though he was in office at Sector V, he got messages that Rs 50,000 had been withdrawn from an ATM in Delhi. “I had a tough time convincing bank officials that I was not in Delhi and lodged a complaint with the Electronic Complex police station. But I am yet to get back my money,” he said.
