2 militants gunned down in encounter in J-K’s Sopore, operation still on

Two militants were gunned down after an encounter broke out with security forces on Friday in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district, news agency ANI reported.

Acting on specific information about presence of militants in Watergam area of Sopore, security forces launched a cordon and search operation there, a police official said.

“As the cordon was tightened, the militants fired at the security forces triggering the ongoing gunfight,” police sources added.

The gunfight was going on when the last reports came in, the police official said.

As a precautionary measure, authorities have suspended mobile internet services in the district.
