Indore: Thieves steal I-Phones, cellphones worth Rs 40 lakh


Indore: A group of thieves targeted a store on MG Road and decamped with i-Phones worth Rs 4 lakh and mobile phones of over Rs 40 lakh on Thursday.  The accused entered the showroom after raising the shutter. A local CCTV captured image of two masked person.

The incident took place at iNSPiRE on MG Road. Two thieves wearing masks entered the showroom around 4.30 am after lifting the shutter and decamped with more than 50 mobile phones from there. They also stole Rs 3.95 lakh kept in the locker. The value of stolen goods is more than Rs 40 lakh.

CSP BPS Parihar said a security guard, posted nearby, was found sleeping behind the showroom. The theft was discovered when employees of the showroom reached there and found goods in disarray and mobile phones missing. They immediately informed the police.


The police later checked CCTVs in which two masked-men were found entering the showroom. The police said that at least five more persons were standing outside the showroom. However, their appearances are not clear.  Parihar said that the incident took place between 4.30 am and 5 am. The role of security guard is also being investigated.

It is said that more than 65 costly mobile phones were stolen and cash kept in the locker was also taken by the accused. After the incident, the police detained some suspects for questioning. According to sources, the stolen mobile phones are worth around Rs 1 crore. However, the police denied this.

Tukoganj police station in-charge Pankaj Dwivedi said that a case has been registered against unidentified thieves on the complaint of Assistant Store Manager Vineet Rathore and further investigations are on. CCTVs are being examined and the efforts to trace the accused captured in the footages are also on. According to Dwivedi, preliminary investigation revealed that thieves stole only phones and not laptops and i-Pads.

The owner of the showroom lives in Nagpur and police have also informed him about the incident. It is said that the new stock of i-Phone and mobile phones reached the store on Wednesday. Sources claimed that Tukoganj police station in-charge was on night patrol on Wednesday and he had also passed through the area but nobody was seen there on MG Road at that time.
