The Telangana government is at an advanced stage of finalising an integrated logistics policy to encourage companies to set up facilities in the State and streamline their functioning.

Jayesh Ranjan, Principal Secretary Industries, Telangana government, said, “The State has identified the logistics sector as one of the major drivers having the potential to boost the economy. Towards facilitating the growth of the sector, a comprehensive integrated logistics policy has been charted out and is now in the process of being finetuned before the announcement.”

‘Open to inputs’

“The policy has been prepared taking inputs from various players in the logistics sector. It has already been circulated through various departments in the State. We are still open to inputs from industry before announcing it,” he said.

Speaking on the sidelines of the Smart Logistics Conference being hosted here, the Principal Secretary said that after the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh and creation of Telangana, it has become a landlocked state.

Yet it has the potential to grow in the logistics sector as a number of companies have set up their base and are serving other markets.

Dry port

To meet their growing demand, the State is in the process of setting up a dry port.

“We have identified an 1,000-acre site at Choutuppal on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada highway near the Ramoji Film City for setting up the dry port. Tenders will be invited soon in the public-private partnership mode,” he said.

There is a huge manufacturing base in Telangana and with round-the-clock power supply, more units are expected to come up. “We see logistics as a game changer,” he said.
