NEW DELHI:
South Delhi Municipal Corporation will soon be cracking down on restaurants that do not have adequate
parking space corresponding to their seating capacity. The civic body has started a survey to ascertain if the parking norm is being flouted.
Senior officials said that the health trade licences of those restaurants not meeting the requirements will be be terminated. The SDMC commissioner had issued the directions to verify the parking claims last Monday.
There are almost 2,000
eateries that have health trade licence from south corporation. The largest concentration of such restaurants is in areas like Green Park, Hauz Khas,
Greater Kailash, South Extension, Mahipalpur and Saket. The SDMC municipal health officer, Dr BK Hazarika, said that the new conditions clearly state that that licensee has to ensure arrangement of proper parking space for customers.
Officials added that five such violators have already been closed down in Mahipalpur and Rajouri Garden.
