Maratha Quota Stir: Student commits suicide in Osmanabad, kin alleges it is over reservation row

Mumbai: A 19-year old student, Trushna Tanaji Mane, died in a hospital on Wednesday after having consumed pesticide on Monday. Trushna resided in Deolali, Kalamb tehsil of Osmanabad district. Her family members claimed she had committed suicide over the Maratha quota issue. They refused to perform her last rites. However, police and revenue officials met her family and persuaded them to inform the government. Her father, Tanaji Mane told police that before consuming pesticide, Trushna had told him she saw no point in completing her education as her brother was unemployed even after he had a BA degree. “That is why she consumed poison and end her life,” Mane told the police.
