Coimbatore: Miscreants beware. Big Bazaar police station limits will be under blanket CCTV monitoring from today.
The city police have installed 36 CCTV cameras with the help of a private firm, assistant commissioner of police N Venkatesan told TOI. “The cameras will cover Raja Street, Oppanakkara Street, Town Hall, Vysial Street, Karuppagounder Street, NH Road and some more areas under the Big Bazaar station limits. They will be connected to the police outposts at TK Market and Town Hall. Police personnel will be deployed round-the-clock to monitor the footage,” he said.

The private firm will also conduct regular maintenance checks on the cameras. “The firm will soon install 14 more CCTV cameras, taking the number of cameras installed to 50. The company has also provided a public addressing system. Police personnel in the outposts will monitor the movement of vehicles from CCTV feed and instruct motorists and pedestrians using the public addressing system. We can access even a month-old recording from the digital video recorder for conducting investigations,” Venkatesan said.

K Palanisamy of Media Today CG Media that installed the cameras, said that the firm will earn revenue by placing hoardings on the pole where the cameras are fixed.

City police commissioner K Periaiah will inaugurate the surveillance system at TK Market police outpost at 10.45am. Deputy commissioners of police S Lakshmi (law&order), Sujit Kumar (traffic), P Perumal, (crime) and S Selvakumar (headquarters) will address the public.
