Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday asked the MLAs of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to set up information centres in their constituencies to let people know the measures taken by the government to address the demands raised by the Maratha community.
The BJP had called a meeting of its MLAs in Mumbai in the backdrop of the ongoing pro-quota agitation. Other parties, including the ally Shiv Sena, have already discussed the situation with their MLAs.
Mr. Fadnavis reportedly cautioned the MLAs not to use provocative language. “The government is making all efforts to diffuse the situation and has taken measures that will benefit the community. We are committed to the cause of the Maratha community,” the CM said.
Twenty MLAs spoke about the situation in their respective constituencies. According to sources, the MLAs have expressed confidence in the leadership of Mr. Fadnavis and acknowledged the manner in which situation is being handled.
“One of the main points raised by the MLAs was not to use provocative language which may disturb the peace in their areas,” an MLA, who attended the meeting, said.
“Mr. Fadnavis also asked the MLAs to reach out to the Marathas by launching campaigns highlighting the government initiatives to improve their conditions,” the BJP leader said.
