Third front declares GS, VP candidates

Vadodara: Ahead of M S University Students Union (MSUSU) polls scheduled on August 24, student outfits have started finalising their candidates for the top posts of MSUSU general secretary (GS) and MSUSU vice-president (VP).
Interestingly, even before the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) – the right wing student outfit backed by the BJP and the National Students Union of India (NSUI) – the Congress’ student outfit could declare their candidates for the two top posts, a third front on Friday declared its candidates for the students union elections.

The Vidyarthi Vikas Sangh (VVS) which was floated by ABVP rebels in 2013 and ‘Jai Ho’ group which was floated by NSUI rebels last year jointly declared Harshal Chaudhary and Saloni Mishra as their candidates for the post of GS and VP, respectively.

Backed by VVS, Chaudhary, who was earlier faculty representative at Faculty of Technology and Engineering from where he has completed his bachelors of engineering from civil engineering stream, is currently pursuing post-graduate diploma in taxation practice from Faculty of Law.

Mishra, who is backed by ‘Jai Ho’ group, is currently pursuing her third year studies in bachelors of commerce (honours) from Faculty of Commerce.

Both the ABVP and NSUI, however, are finding it difficult to arrive at any conclusion regarding the candidates for the two posts.

ABVP which is otherwise known as a cadre-based outfit is in shambles since last couple of years after a large chunk of erstwhile student leaders parted ways to form VVS. The saffron student outfit has hardly shown any signs of improving its organisation strength. Last year, although, its candidate won VP’s post, it was seen more of an individual achievement rather than a student outfit’s victory.

NSUI on the other hand is struggling with internal rift as several groups want the candidates backed by them to be declared as GS and VP candidates because of which the student outfit has not been able to arrive at a decision.
