Mumbai: A special CBI court on Thursday granted bail to two accused in the multi-crore Punjab National Bank (PNB) scam. The special court granted bail to former International Chief Auditor of the bank and also a Joint President (Finance) of Gitanjali Gems Ltd on a surety of Rs 1 lakh.
Special Judge J C Jagdale granted bail to auditor – Bishnoi Pratap Mishra and joint president Kapil Khandelwal, who were arrested in March this year. The special court has directed the duo not to leave India without seeking prior permission from the court. The court has also asked them not to make any attempt to tamper with the prosecution evidence and also refrain from committing any offence while on bail.
The court has clearly said that if the duo breach any of the conditions, as imposed, their bails would automatically stand cancelled. Mishra, was arrested on March 1, 2018 and Khandelwal was arrested on February 20, 2018 in PNB scam and since then both of them have been in judicial custody. They are booked under the charges of criminal conspiracy, cheating, criminal breach of trust while holding a public office. The duo has also been chargesheeted under the relevant section under the Securitisation and Reconstruction of Financial Assets and Enforcement of Security Interest Act, 2002 and the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
