Priests treat nuns like their servants, says Catholic magazine

IDUKKI: A Catholic churchowned magazine has openly criticised priests and church authorities over the condition of convents in Kerala, warning them that if the present trends continue all convents would be closed within 20 years.

“Most of the priests consider nuns as their servants. They want the nuns to wash their clothes and cook their food…” stated an article published in ‘Assisi’, a monthly magazine published from Bharananganam under the patronage of the Capuchins of St Joseph province of Kerala.

The column by Fr Jijo Kurian, a Capuchin priest in Idukki, reviewed the present situation of nuns and Catholic convents. The column also lent support to the nun who filed a rape complaint against the Jalandhar Bishop.
