The Visakhapatnam branch of A.P. Municipal Commissioners’ Association on Thursday launched a three-day protest condemning the suspension of the Pithapuram Municipal Commissioner and Assistant Electoral Registration Officer M. Ramamohan by the East Godavari District Collector. The Commissioners, who attended a State-level meeting on plastic pollution here, sported black badges as part of the protest. Employees of the municipal sub-ordinate services extended their support to the protest.
Regional Director of Municipal Administration K. Ramesh said the District Collector suspended Mr. Ramamohan for certain discrepancies in enrolment of voters while sparing the tehsildar. He alleged that while seeking an explanation from the revenue office, the Collector preferred to place Mr. Ramamohan under suspension not withstanding the fact that the Municipal Commissioners were already overburdened with routine work.
At the GVMC office, Additional Commissioners G.V.V.S. Murthy and S.S. Varma and Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) R. Somannarayana and other officials protested against the suspension.
