An interesting contest is on the cards on Day 3 after Virat Kohli’s century had taken India to within 13 runs of England’s first innings total on Day 2 before Ashwin brought the day to a close by castling Alastair Cook cheaply.
Despite excellent knocks from Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow, Indian bowlers brought their team back into the game and dismissed England for 287 in the first innings.
India started with fluency from Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay but Sam Curran and Ben Stokes had other ideas and put India on the back foot by some fine bowling.
India lost five wickets before Virat Kohli with late order assistance brought his team back on the track with a splendid 149. India were dismissed for 274, trails England by 13 runs. Ashwin once again got through the gates of Alastair Cook at the end of day 2.
