Telangana government is getting ready to formally launch Rythu Bandhu Group Insurance Scheme on August 15 and before that all eligible farmers will be given the insurance certificates.
The government released ₹ 600 crore towards payment of premium for 27 lakh farmers with pattadar passbooks, who were in the stipulated age group of 18 to 60 years to avail the insurance scheme.
Sources said the insurance certificates issued by the Life Insurance Corporation of India will be distributed in all districts and they will be in the hands of all the farmers before the formal launch of the scheme.
The certificate with the logo of Telangana government and the LIC has the details of master policy holder ie. the Department of Agriculture and Cooperation and the insured amount of ₹5 lakh in the name of the individual farmer (policy holder), his date of birth, LIC Id number, Aadhaar number, Pattadar Passbook number, date of joining the scheme and the name of the nominee and his or her relation with the individual policy holder.
Meanwhile, the department completed distributing about 50 lakh cheques to 42 lakh farmers under the Rythu Bandhu Investment Support Scheme. More cheques had to be printed as some farmers had agricultural land in different villages and survey areas necessitating issuance of separate cheques.
So far government has disbursed ₹5,078 crore under the Rythu Bandhu scheme. Another instalment of investment assistance will be given to the eligible farmers in November for Rabi season. The government made a budget provision of ₹12,000 crore for two crop seasons under the Rythu Bandhu scheme.
