Driving at break-neck speed and ignoring lane disciple have become a norm on the busy roads of Alwarpet

Vehicle users traversing through C.V. Raman Road and TTK Road in Alwarpet, have requested the Greater Chennai Corporation to lay speed breakers on these stretches.

Starting from the intersection of C.P. Ramaswamy Road and C.V. Raman Road nearly till the intersection of TTK Road, the thoroughfares are a nightmare for law-abiding motorists.

In the absence of speed -breakers, which is a one-way till the intersection of TTK Road and C.P. Ramaswamy Road, vehicle users come at a break-neck speed. “The motorists do not follow lane discipline and zig-zag much to the discomfort of their counterparts and pedestrians,” C. Sathyabama, a motorist, said.

Fix crumbling pavements

On C.V. Raman Road, the footpaths are not wide enough, and at frequent points on the stretch, pedestrians have to step down on the carriageway. On TTK Road, the pavements are broken and uneven forcing pedestrians to share carriageway space with the motorists.

"It is good to lay speed breakers on both the stretches to alert the undisciplined road-users to make them reduce the speed of their vehicles.”

It is a common sight to see motorists zoom like anything, and driving or riding rashly. The speed-breakers should be laid near the stretch lamp posts with the reflectors to enhance visibility at night.

Motorists have also requested the Chennai Traffic Police to deploy police personnel at the intersection of C.V. Raman Road, and C.P Ramaswamy Road.
