Hubballi: Border Security Force (BSF) soldier Ramesh Channappa Nargund was laid to rest with state honours at his village Hosakatti in Kundgol taluk on Thursday.
Nargund was electrocuted at R S Pur border of Navapind in Jammu and Kashmir recently.

District armed reserve and BSF gave the state honours. Former chief minister Jagadish Shettar, Kundgol MLA C S Shivalli, DC M Deepa, SP Sangeeta G and other officials attended the last rites.

Earlier, the body was kept for public viewing at the government school at Ramanakoppa where the soldier had studied and in front of the community hall at Hosakatti village. Later, the body was taken in a procession for the final rites.

Born on August 1, 1983, Nargund joined the BSF in 2012 on the lines of his elder brother Basavaraj. He is survived by his wife Lakshmi, son Gautham and daughter Eshwari.

The district administration gave an interim compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the kin of the deceased. DC Deepa said the remaining Rs 20 lakh and a government job to the dependent will be given later.
