NEW DELHI: Almost 150 people onboard Jet Airways’ Riyadh-Mumbai flight had a narrow escape when the aircraft rejected take off and then went off the runway in the early hours of Friday. Sources say the pilots must have braked hard to ensure the plane stops in the available length of the runway at
Riyadh after aborting take off but it might have skidded off it. However, the exact cause of why the Boeing 737 went off the runway will be known after a probe.
In a statement, Jet said: “Our flight 9W 523 with 142 guests and 7 crew members from Riyadh to Mumbai of 3rd August aborted takeoff and departed the runway at Riyadh Airport. All our guests and crew have been evacuated safely with no reported injuries.”
“Guests have been accommodated inside the terminal building. Our teams present at the location are assisting guests in every possible way…. All our guests and crew members of flight 9W 523 accommodated inside the terminal building at Riyadh Airport have been served meals and refreshments and our teams are taking
care of their requirements,” the statement added.
