Bus tour takes in two inspiring gardens

Attila and Michele Kapitany's succulent extravaganza in Narre Warren North has attracted visitors from across the world and their garden is the first stop on a bus tour being held later this month. The all-day trip, which also takes in the Australian Garden in Cranbourne, is organised by the Friends of the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne.

It departs at 9am on August 23 from Gate Lodge, 100 Birdwood Avenue, Melbourne, $85/$75 members (including morning tea and lunch). Bookings close on August 10; go to rbgfriendsmelbourne.org or phone 9650 6398.

CLUB

Productive gardening is the main focus of a monthly garden club gathering being held at Heide, in Bulleen. The next gathering, run by Heide gardener Katie Grace, is on August 29, 10am to 11am, in the Heide 1 kitchen garden. It includes produce tasting and morning tea, $12. heide.com.au

LECTURE

Gardening journalist and writer Anne Latreille will give a lecture after the Australian Garden History Society's AGM next week. Latreille will discuss aspects of her book Kindred Spirits, which traces the lives of Jean Galbraith and Joan Law-Smith. The event starts at 6pm on August 8 at the University of Melbourne's Burnley campus, 500 Yarra Boulevard, Richmond.
